Cloud Computing

vmware.jpgIf you aren't familiar with the term cloud computing, don't worry, we can help with that. In the simplest of terms, cloud computing refers to anything that involves delivering hosted services over the internet. The two main types of clouds are Private and Public. As the name implies, public clouds provide service to anyone on the internet while private clouds provide hosted services to a limited amount of people via a proprietary network or data center. WTE Solutions owns and manages our own Private Cloud infrastructure for Software as a Service (SaaS) applications, as well as building and hosting Private Cloud infrastructure for clients. The private cloud uses VMWARE ESX Server technology and NETAPP Filer storage. Redundant networks, redundant firewalls, redundant IPS, redundant switches, redundant server and redundant load balancers may sound a little, well…redundant. But for most of our customers, this redundancy is what allows them to sleep at night. The Private cloud allows WTE Solutions to rapidly provision servers and storage and scale up or down as needed without having to lock clients into big multi-year contracts.

The main advantage our customers have with a privately-managed cloud is our direct control over every aspect of the cloud’s implementation. This includes the hardware, networking, operating system and other software used to create the cloud itself, and the actual security implementation. WTE Solutions uses best-of-breed technologies because we built the cloud infrastructure for reliability, then achieve cost saving by having reliable systems.

Cloud computing is changing the way computing resources are used in the datacenter. Customers want the ability to access infrastructure resources how and when they choose and System Admins are asked to accommodate these shifts in the consumption model, but still deal with the security, compatibility, and compliance issues associated with delivering that convenience to application business owners and developers. Private clouds provide the flexibility required to meet client needs and expectations while maintaining the security of dedicated systems and resources.
