Payflow Gateway is PayPal’s secure payment gateway. WTE has worked with the Payflow Gateway on numerous ecommerce websites and finds PayPal’s Applications Program Interface (API) to be one of the better APIs out there. Merchants use Payflow to process debit and credit cards, PayPal, and credit voids. PayPal Payments Pro uses Payflow Gateway and it’s API so both Pro and Gateway have similar features. Gateway customers aren’t limited to PayPal, but can choose to process payments with any bank or processor. Merchants can choose to host their checkout pages sending transactions to PayPal using the open Payflow Gateway API or choose to have PayPal host checkout pages.
